Weekly Photo Challenge: Layered

Layers of texture on the Warrenton Branch Railroad, Warrenton, Virginia.

Our theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge this week is: Layered.
Our instructions:  This week, focus on the interplay of depth, density, and texture.

Fall has officially arrived.  Though you’d never know it here in Virginia.  It was 90 degrees all weekend, and more heat is on the menu this week.  My pumpkin spice tea tastes all wrong when it’s this hot outside.  I need Mother Nature to turn down the thermostat.

This is a segment of the old Warrenton Branch Railroad.  It was completed in 1852, but passenger service was halted in 1941.  Today, most of the railroad has been converted to a community trail.

I love the layers of textures in this photo.  The crunchy leaves, the weathered wood, the rusty metal, and the crushed limestone.  I also like to think Mother Nature is sending us a message that fall really is about to show itself.

Salud!
