Up close with the beard of a black iris . . .
Our theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge this week is: Details.
Our instructions: For this week’s challenge, try to look past the big picture and take a more intimate approach. Zoom in on details in unexpected places.
Several years ago, my mom gave me a box of iris rhizomes from her garden. I found a free corner of my yard, threw them in the ground, and promptly forgot about them. The following spring, I received a dramatic surprise — black irises! And now, they are among my very favorite (and most unique) spring bloomers.
As I understand it, there are no truly black flowers, they are simply a very dark purple or dark red, and they appear black. Curious, I did an iris photo study a few weeks ago, and I was quite surprised to find such vibrant purple and magenta hues when I took a look at the macro details.
If you’re interested, my full iris study (complete with the big picture black iris) can be found on my Flickr page.
Salud!
Gorgeous.
