Weekly Photo Challenge: Shadow

You can completely change an image with a shadow . . .

Our theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge this week is:  Shadow.
Our instructions:  This week, hunt for shadows and incorporate them into your shot. The shadow can be the focal point of the image, or simply a detail that adds texture and makes the scene a bit more dynamic.

I took this picture at Elizabeth Hartnell Mason Neck Wildlife Refuge in Lorton, Virginia.  I was looking for bald eagles to photograph, and although I did see a nesting pair, they were too far away to get decent photos.  On my way back to the car, I was also drawn this branch with its last, waning leaves of fall.  I didn’t notice the shadows until I got home — a happy surprise of added dynamic and texture contrast.
